The Attica Prison Riot upstate New York (1971)
This collection was inspired by the prison uprising dubbed as the most prison riot ever recorded in US history, at the Attica Correctional facility in Bullafo, upstate New York in 1971. that killed 43 people. These drawings captured vividly the last moment of the departed souls. Kehinde reminded us from an Afrocentric perspective, how much darkness and horror filled the air. The artist’s drawing is a bold and vivid narrative of a recent past, represented by the red blood and the dark colors transposed on a white canvas.
